I've heard about it, but that's about it. But Thornbury is on my 2015 travel list (yes, I'm already planning that trip too!) and I'm hoping I'll get a chance to stay there in the hotel part.

Heehee, I'm the same way, but with gift shops! Although I do have fond memories of a lot of the cafes at properties too - I especially remember a nice sandwich I had at Sudeley Castle. :)

I don't know how it is - but I always seem to know where the nice coffee shops are & the last time I was here their's was very good! The place itself is beautiful inside and I'm thrilled for you that you are planning to come over again next year.

Thanks for the info on the exhibition at Southwell Minster. It's a lovely building, about an hour from me and really deserves a higher profile than it gets... and the Saracen's Head up the road isn't bad for a spot of lunch either!. Mind you, I still haven't made it to the BL to see the illuminated MSS, & partake of the sticky bun on your behalf!

The attribution of the death mask as being Shakespeare has been slated by many scholars. No less than Professor Stanley Wells has said he is 'very sceptical about the whole story'. The Daily Mail article shows it in comparison to the Cobbe Portrait which too has often been taken as not being of Shakespeare. A few years ago, a German forensic scientist compared the mask to the Davenant Bust in London's Garrick Club and stated it was a very good match. However, many 'experts' say the bust dates from the middle of the 18th century. Only the Droeshout Portrait in the First Folio is regarded as a definite likeness. As with much regarding the life of William Shakespeare, I have a feeling this will run and run.
